Why did you get into practicing and teaching yoga?
I got into yoga by chance. I suffered from some significant back problems starting in 2008. I tried a yoga 15 minute yoga dvd and the next day felt a little better. I did the dvd again and felt less pain again the following day. It became part of my physical therapy and led me to my first yoga certification in 2009.
What do you try to bring to your yoga classes? What can we expect in the classes you teach?
I try to bring safety and doing the pose properly in my classes. I like to make my classes challenging and teach a little about the how’s and why’s of a pose. I like doing beginner classes so the students have a good foundation when they start their yoga practice.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, my husband and I are very active. We have a large yard and garden. We raise chickens and turkeys for ourselves. We bike, golf, travel and spend as much time as we can with our three children and two grandchildren. I am a nurse and work with the Department of Corrections. I have taught yoga to the women prisoners in the Milwaukee area off and on for the past 3 years.
Tell us a bit about your background and family.
My husband and I moved to the Fox Valley in 1987. We have 2 daughters and 1 son, a 3 ½ yr.old grandson, and 1 yr. old granddaughter. I would love to teach more yoga in the prison setting, but this has not been an easy task to master. I currently sub at Pura Vida Yoga and love it. If you haven’t tried a yoga class, I invite you to try one anywhere. Please come with no expectations and you will leave with a clearer mind and an overall good feeling.
